The Poison That’s In Your Food

Did You Know that this poisonous gas is being added to your food where most other countries have banned it?

Currently, bromide is found in pesticides (methyl bromide),  some bread products (potassium bromate), brominated vegetable oil that may be added to citrus-flavored drinks, hot tub cleansers, certain asthma inhalers and prescription drugs, plastic products, some personal care products, and some  fabric dyes.

According to the dictionary bromine is a fuming red-brown liquid at room temperature and is corrosive and toxic.

In the early years of the First World War, bromine compounds were used as warfare in the form of poison gas.

Bromine Causes Disease

Elevated bromide levels have been implicated in every thyroid disease, from simple hypothyroidism to auto-immune diseases to thyroid cancer.
Studies have found bromide levels 50 times higher in thyroid cancer than normal thyroid tissue.

Iodine was used as an additive in baked goods to condition the dough, but back in the 60’s the health giving iodine was replaced with bromine. Unfortunately, bromine is toxic to the human body and binds to iodine receptors in the breast and is a known carcinogen in the breast. Iodine, on the other hand, has anti-carcinogenic properties, particularly in thyroid and breast cancers.

This Additive Can Cause Breast Cancer

Iodine and bromine appear similar to the thyroid gland and bromine easily binds to the thyroid gland’s receptors for iodine. Bromine, however, is of no value to the thyroid gland and inhibits the activity of iodine in the thyroid gland. Bromine also can cause impaired thinking and memory, drowsiness, dizziness and irritability. This substitution of bromine for iodine has resulted in nearly universal deficiency of iodine in the American populace.

Drinking one soda isn’t going to ruin your health, but drinking a flavored soda, eating bread, muffins, scones, pasta or bagels on a daily, weekly, even monthly basis, can have disastrous consequences on your long-term physical and mental health. All of these foods contain bromine, which leaches your body of iodine and builds up over time as bromine toxicity.

This Additive Can Drive You Crazy

An accumulation of bromine in the central nervous system has been implicated in the onset of psychotic disorders. Between 1920 and 1960 nearly 20% of all hospital admissions for acute paranoid schizophrenia were caused by diets high in bromide-containing foods and beverages. Exposure to bromine also disrupts the endocrine system, which regulates mood, growth and development, tissue function, metabolism, sexual function, and reproduction. Some of the telltale signs that bromine is lurking in your system include…

Thyroid disorders
Weight gain
Skin rashes
Abdominal pain
Cardiac arrhythmias
Metallic taste in the mouth
Bleeding and inflamed gums
Memory loss

The Ban on Bromine

The FDA originally declared bromine safe for consumption, but later reneged on that statement without implementing a ban! Bromine was banned in foods and drinks throughout Europe, Japan, and Canada in the 1990s, but bromine is still widely used in various forms as a food additive in America.

Potassium bromate taints breads, baked goods, and flour, and is even added to toothpastes and mouthwashes as an antiseptic and astringent. Methyl bromide is sprayed as a pesticide on our fruits and vegetables. Our sodas are laced with sodium bromate (BMOs), as are our hair dyes, toiletries, fabrics and upholsteries. The seats, armrests, shift knobs and door trims of our cars are made with bromine, as are the swimming pool treatments used in hot tubs.

It seems no food, personal care product or surface is safe from bromine, but if you buy organic, local and use products with only natural ingredients instead of man made ingredients you should be safe.

Do You Have Excess Bromine in Your System?

There is a way to rid your body of excess Bromine and that is by salt loading. Here is how:

Salt Loading

  1. Drink ¼ tsp of unrefined sea salt in about ½ cup of warm water, or simply place it on your tongue, and chase it with 16 ounces of water.
  2. Repeat this in 30-45 minutes, and then once again, in order to start urinating a good amount. The chloride in the salt flushes the bromine into the urine, and if this relieves the symptoms, then weare most probably dealing with bromine toxicity.
  3. If you do this for more than one day, you do the 3 repetitions, as in 1. and 2. above, each day.

If you believe you have a problem or deficiency of any kind pick up a book called, “Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It” by David Brownstein, MD. Iodine is a powerful healer and most of us are deficient. Japanese women who do not get breast cancer or fibroids and are among the healthiest people on earth consume 60 times more iodine per day than American women.
